Tella was first introduced to the leather community in 1977 and immediately
fell in love with the singletail whip.(Signalwhips,Snakewhips and
Bullwhips) The idea of fashioning such an intricately crafted
piece of functional art fascinated him. However it wasn't until !992
that
he began to make them."I learned how to braid simple things like key
chains and whistle lanyards as a young boy in summer camp.So I knew
something about plaiting leather," he explains.It was obviously of
some help, but as the self-taught, Florida-based Tella admits he wasn't
prepared for the fact that it would take him four years he could
actually make a whip worth it's name. Nowadays he is considered on
of the top whipmakers in the world, and although to modest to blow
his
own trumpet about it, he admit he has been commissioned to make several
whips for Swain Adney Brigg - also known as "Whipmakers to the Queen".
He manages to find time to demonstrate and teach across the USA and
Europe too, though most of his time is spent sitting at the bench
doing the thing he loves most - "making the most beautiful pieces
of functional erotic art I possibly can. |
